Roxana Saberi (above) a 32 year old journalist accused of spying , had her 8 year sentence suspended by an appeals court and was freed today in Iran. Perosnally I'm shocked. Although there were signs that Iran was strongly considering reviewing the case, especially after Iranian President Ahjmadinijead mentioned an appeals process would take place, this is surprising. To take an 8 year sentence, anywhere, and just rip it into shreds, is rare. This brings to mind the Free John Sinclair rally of 1971. Sinclair, head of the White Panther party, and manager of the famed rock band the MC5, was jailed for 10 years for possesing 2 joints. Jailed since 1969, he was released soon after the rally.
