CHENEY SUPPORTS GAY MARRIAGE. SORT OF

The former VPs daughter is gay. He said gay marriage was a states rights, not a federal issue in 2004 during the campaign. Today he said everyone has a right to equality. Look out, the GOP is chiseling itself out of its neanderthal ice. They are doing it through Cheney. The problem is, calling it a choice for states is not enough. Barry Goldwater said the same thing in 1964 about civil rights, and was seen as a bigot. He then went on to win 6 states. 5 Confederate ones, and his own state of Arizona. The GOP can use Cheney's lukewarm support of gay marriages as a springboard though, if they choose NOT to sideline social issues that have challenged them in the past. The next party leader who takes the torch will have to go a step further and call it the right of every American to be married , regardless of sexual preference, if the Republicans want to take the lead on this. It's a gamble, but they may have to bite the bullet if they want to get back in power . read article
