According to a Time magazine piece, former VP and famed duck hunter Dick Cheney had gotten in the face of former President Bush over the Scooter Libby pardon. Libby was Cheney's top aide who took the fall for outing Valerie Plame as a CIA agent. Cheney was said to have leaked this info that Libby blocked from being connected to his boss.
Bush commuted Libby's 30 month sentence but left the charges and his lost reputation intact. Cheney wanted a full pardon for his friend who essentially took a bullet for him in order to help Bush push across his reasons for invading Iraq. That main reason being that Iraq had enriched uranium, thus the material needed for shit kicking bombs. Former Ambassador to Iraq Joe Wilson refuted the White House claims that Iraq possessed this after Colin Powell presented the White House's claims to the UN. It was soon after that the Plame story came out. Plame is the wife of Wilson. Outing her identitiy was seen as a tactic designed to shut Wilson up and stifle dissent in the media and Washington in general.
