PLAXICO BURRESS INDICTED ON GUN CHARGES BECAUSE HE BROUGHT A FLORIDA LICENSED GUN TO A NY CLUB. OF COURSE A NY LICENSED GUN WOULDVE BEEN OK.
As Sarah Palin gave her first post Governor speech at the NRA Alaskan chapter Sunday , closed to the press by the way, former hometown football star Wide Receiver Plaxico Burress has been indicted on 2nd degree gun possession charges. He faces 3 and half to 15 years in prison for carrying a Florida licensed gun into a New York city club late last year. He accidentally shot himself in the leg and was thus exposed as having committed the crime of carrying a gun authorized in another state but not in NYC. New York is known for it's extremely tough gun laws and DA Robert Morgenthau is not letting a star athlete off the hook., The star in this case being Burress, the guy who caught the famed game winning Super Bowl TD two years ago as the Giants miraculously beat the then undefeated New England Patriots with a minute left in the contest.
That said, let's review the 2nd amendment's purpose. The Right To Bear Arms, as stated in the Bill of Rights is with the understanding that:"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
Does it mention anywhere in this amendment that a licensed gun owner bring perhaps bring a gun to a club yet potentially exemplify anger managent issues, drug and or alcohol abuse, scarred mindset from a history of child or mental abuse, none of which are checked while ringing up the sales for these guns. My point is, putting Burress in prison is not deterring anyone. It's only strictly adhering to a state law by not playing favorites to famous people yet still doesnt do jock shit about making the streets any safer.
What should be done is a relentless screening of potential owners with a various host of questions and mental tests to see if they uphold the beloved 2nd amendments purpose which I repeat, is to defend the rights of freedom from a bullying Federal government. A gun is a gun. When body bags roll out of ambulances prepared to fill themselves with corpses, nobody asks if the shooter was a licensed gun owner.
Congrats Mayor Bloomberg and DA Morgenthau for keeping the guns out of Plax's hands maybe forever. Now that you're done ,could you find the time and explain to me why other dip shits are walking into clubs with guns?. Because they have a license to? Great well hey, I have a license to drive. Maybe I should down a bottle of Jameson, turn on the ignition, then take out a row of pedestrians in a fit of depression over my month to month bill paying stress. How's that sound? Think about it. Think about the lethal assortment of these combos. Night Clubs. Drinks. Jealousy. Anger. Drugs. Machismo. Why dont' you add pop rocks and coke to that. Sounds like a great summer cocktail. Bartender get me a stiff one. I need it, because here's the depressing truth. Putting Plaxico Burress away doens't change the fact that any shmuck can buy a gun. Having a NYC license to carry doesn't mean that that same person has the sanity and self control needed to know that society doesn't settle petty differences with bullets. So what has this indictment accomplished in the grand scheme of safety? To quote former badass Mayor Rudy Giuliani at his Republican convention speech ,"Nothing. Zero. Nada."
