MAYOR DALEY WEIGHS IN ON GATES CONTROVERSY

Chicago is a tough town. Lynn Sweet form the Chicago Sun Times, Obama's hometown paper got the controversy started when she brought up the Gates arrest at the Wednesday White House press conference on Health Care. Then Obama said the cops in Cambridge acted "stupidly." Today Obama offered to have both Gates and arresting officer CRowley over to the Whote House for a beer and a reconciliation. Racism is a hot button issue.
This from the Sun Times:

President Obama should have gathered the facts first before commenting on Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr.’s encounter with Cambridge, Mass. police, Mayor Daley said Saturday, wading into the controversy.

Daley said Obama — who has admitted he used a poor choice of words when he said Cambridge police acted “stupidly” by arresting Gates — should have known “you always have to have the facts” before responding to media questions.
